Hula Pie

DukesSo I went all day without shave ice yesterday.  Bummer, but I believe worth it becuase I was able to have Hula Pie at dinner.  We ate at Duke’s at the Marriott.  It was an adventure getting there!  It wasn’t well marked and we had to stop and ask at the Marriott valet desk where to go.  The place is so big you need a map to get around!  Glad we didn’t stay in a resort hotel. It was beautiful and very nice, but we couldn’t imagine coming back from a day at the beach or hiking in the jungle to something so fancy.

Anyways, we made our way to the restaurant and had a very good dinner.  Duke’s features two things — their salad bar (which was very good) and their hula pie (which was amazing).   The hula pie is an oreo crust, macadamia nut ice cream, whipped cream, more mac nuts and hot fudge.  The pie is about 6 inches tall and yes, Mom, the fudge was hot!  But the star was the yummy mac nut ice cream, and I don’t usually like nut ice creams.  A very good place to eat, but the lighting is horrible, so if you have trouble seeing, you might not know what you are ordering!

BBQ

ScottysAfter the long day of sightseeing we ventured back to Kapaa. Seems that is where all the really good food is that doesn’t have an hour wait or require reservations.

We ate dinner at Scotty’s Beachside BBQ. DELICIOUS!! This may be the best bbq we have ever had. It has won several “best of” awards and this time those voters got it spot on! We had the sampler (ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, and chicken) and had lots of spicy sauce on the side. My favorite was the beef and Dan’s was the sauce!

Gotta try this place if you are ever in Kauai!
